Green Lens International and Rotary Club of Buwate Partner for Climate Education and Tree Planting at Buwaate C.O.U Primary School
WAKISO, UGANDA — On September 30, 2026, Green Lens International joined forces with the Rotary Club of Buwate for a high-impact community outreach event at Buwaate Church of Uganda (C.O.U) Primary School, combining academic empowerment with environmental advocacy.
Led by Rotary President Chris Kayondo and Green Lens International Director Nelson Byanyima, the joint initiative addressed both immediate educational needs and long-term sustainability goals. The Rotary Club anchored the scholastic pillar of the outreach by handing out essential learning materials to over 100 pupils to support their classroom studies.

Taking the stage to champion climate literacy, Nelson Byanyima delivered an interactive session on the vital importance of environmental conservation. To reinforce these lessons, Green Lens International donated 10 copies of their climate education handbook, Let's Save Our Planet, encouraging pupils to delve into environmental stewardship during their free time.

The outreach culminated in a collaborative tree-planting session on the school grounds, led by Green Lens International alongside Rotary members and the student members of the Buwaate C.O.U Environment Club.

Together, they planted an indigenous jackfruit tree—a sapling with a notable history. The tree was originally donated by Mrs. Rose Kakuru Ikiriza Ngabo, Director of the Kenneth Kakuru Earth Reboot Initiative, during the launch of the Lawyers for Environment and Climate Justice Network and the Greenwatch Environmental Law Clinic, hosted by Greenwatch on August 20, 2026.
Adding to the momentum, Green Lens International pledged to support the school further by providing additional trees and ornamental plants to beautify the compound and enhance its green canopy.

The September 2026 event at Buwaate reflects Green Lens International's ongoing campaign to embed climate consciousness in primary schools across Kampala and Mukono.
This work builds on past achievements, including a major campaign held on Earth Day 2025 at Nakasero Primary School. During that event, Green Lens International engaged over 600 pupils in foundational climate education and introduced practical solutions by demonstrating clean cooking technologies—specifically electric pressure cookers—to over 20 school staff members to encourage a shift away from biomass fuels.
Through strategic partnerships with civic organizations, practical technology demonstrations, and school-level engagement, Green Lens International continues to equip Uganda's youth and educators with the knowledge and tools needed to protect their environment.
